Picard is barely two weeks away—just enough time for one last trailer for the Star Trek series’ final season. (Or is it?) The masterminds behind the Star Trek universe having been doling out hints and reveals in the leadup to this much-anticipated Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion, so it tracks that there are a couple of new faces to see here—and one familiar face who hadn’t previously turned up in the trailers.
As expected, there’s Brent Spiner—joining the rest of his old shipmates Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Michael Dorn for one last grand adventure. While the previous teaser focused on a lot on the season’s mysterious antagonist (or one of them), this time it’s all about Picard and his friends, who have changed. “Something’s different now,” says Riker. “Is anybody you know still the person you knew?” asks a new character played by Ed Speleers (Outlander). A press release describes him as “a series regular who aids Beverly Crusher’s medical efforts on worlds Starfleet has forgotten.” And he must be important, given his prominent place in this new poster.
The other new face in the trailer belongs to Todd Stashwick, who plays captain of the U.S.S. Titan. Other than that, details are thin. Here’s the synopsis:
In the epic, thrilling conclusion of Star Trek: Picard, a desperate message from a long-lost friend draws Starfleet legend Admiral Jean-Luc Picard into the most daring mission of his life, forcing him to recruit allies spanning generations old and new. This final adventure sets him on a collision course with the legacy of his past and explosive, new revelations that will alter the fate of the Federation forever.
Well, we know Tasha Yar shows up, and that really is holodeck Moriarty, and both Deep Space Nine and Voyager are relevant to the story showrunner Terry Matalas and his team are telling. Beyond that, we’ll just have to be patient. Star Trek: Picard returns to Paramount Plus February 16th.
